Biographical Information[edit]
Xiang Zheng was a pitcher for the Jiangsu Hopestars in the China Baseball League. He worked 2 2/3 shutout innings for the Chinese national team in the 2014 Asian Games (1 BB, 1 H, 1 HB, 2 K). Starting against Mongolia, he retired Narmandakh Lkhagvatseren, walked Munkhbat Dashzeveg and struck out Dechinsuren Bat Ochir and Batzul Tsolmon. As Japan was heavily favored, the team rotated several pitchers in to keep everyone rested; he was followed by Ziliang Li, Song Ran, Yu Liu, Jianzeng Sun and Qingyuan Meng in a combined mercy rule no-hitter; his walk cost them a perfecto. His second opponent was much tougher - Gold Medal winner South Korea, which had at least four future major leaguers in the lineup. He closed out a 7-2 semifinals loss, relieving Ran and allowing one hit in 1 1/3 shutout innings.
