Biographical Information[edit]

Xia Luo began pitching for the Sichuan Dragons in 2009. He was with the Chinese national team for the 2012 Asia Series and 2012 Asian Championship. In the 2013 World Baseball Classic, Luo unexpectedly got the start against host Japan in China's opening game, and he did surprisingly well. In 3 2/3 innings, he allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and only one run (Sho Nakata singling in Yoshio Itoi) while fanning two. He left due to the pitch count limit, replaced by Dawei Zhu, and wound up taking the loss when his successors on the mound allowed the Japanese to pad their lead. He remained with China for the 2013 East Asian Games.

Luo allowed one hit in two innings in the 2014 Asian Games, but it was a three-homer to Byung-ho Park of South Korea after walking two. He walked a total of four in the Games. He also struggled against South Korea in the 2015 Asian Championship, giving up 3 hits, a walk and 4 runs (3 earned) in 2/3 of an inning against the eventual Gold Medalists. He had the highest ERA of any Chinese pitcher in the tournament.
