Biographical Information[edit]
Weiyi Wang pitched for the Jiangsu Pegasus. [1] He allowed nine hits, seven walks and ten runs (two earned) in 4 1/3 IP in the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup. [2] In the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he made two appearances with a 22.50 ERA, which was 9th on China's 14-man staff. In their opener against Japan, he relieved Xiang Wang in the second with the bases loaded, two outs, a 1-0 deficit and the imposing Shohei Ohtani at the plate. Wang got Ohtani to ground out then struck out Munetaka Murakami to open the second. He walked Kazuma Okamoto and Shugo Maki that inning but escaped unscathed. In the 4th, he ran into trouble when Lars Nootbaar and Kensuke Kondoh had two-out hits and Ohtani doubled them in. He was succeeded by Hailong Sun. His other game, he was rocked by the Australian Southern Thunder. Relieving Changlong Su with one out, one on and a 6-2 deficit in the 4th, he retired Alex Hall but then Robbie Glendinning homered, Darryl George walked, Aaron Whitefield doubled in a run and Rixon Wingrove singled in another with an error on the play by Jie Cao. Logan Wade singled to make it a four-run outing in a third of an inning before Yuchen Wang took over. [3]
