Gunasiri was with Sri Lanka when they won the 2017 West Asian Baseball Cup, the country's first title. [1] That qualified them for the 2017 Asian Championship. In that event, he backed up Nelanka Karunarathna at catcher, going 0 for 1. [2]

In his lone at-bat, he singled off Soua Xong to score Kasthuri Mudali Naween Anuradha and make it 12-10 in the 8th. [3] The next day, a 14-3 loss to Thailand, he started and went 2 for 3 with hits off Kevin Kawin Irwin and Sakai Phraechai while handling 10 putouts and an assist with no errors. [4]
In the 2019 Asian Championship, he backed up Sahan Avishka at catcher and Mudali at first base. He was 0 for 1 but laid down two sacrifice hits to tie Chen-Yu Yang, Chan-yeol Yang and Jinjun Luo for the event lead. [5]
Away from baseball, he works in banking. [6]
