Biographical Information[edit]
Victor Mascai has played in the minors and for the Brazilian national team.
Mascai was signed by Houston Astros scouts Oz Ocampo and Thiago De Souza in 2017. [1] He hit .259/.336/.388 for the 2018 DSL Astros, fielding .994 at 1B. He was 1 for 4 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch in the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier. [2] He was 4 for 21 with 6 walks, 10 whiffs, a double and a homer for the 2019 GCL Astros.
He was on Brazil's roster for the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers before that was one of the first baseball events canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3] The 2020 minor league season was then wiped out by the pandemic as well. He returned in 2021 with the FCL Astros (.225/.311/.425, 9 RBI in 12 G) and Fayetteville Woodpeckers (.174/.335/.386 in 41 G; .969 at 1B0. The biggest positive was his pop with 9 HR in 53 G overall, plus he drew 36 walks, but 71 K in 172 AB was a sign of major concern. When he began 2022 similarly for Fayetteville (.216/.331/.407, 36 BB, 80 K, 9 HR in 242 PA), the Astros let him go.
As a backup in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he got one at-bat for Brazil. Pinch-hitting for Fernando Luciano in the 7th, he struck out against Panama's Carlos Luna. [4]
