PG Cares Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, IA, is the home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Minnesota Twins' High-A Midwest League farm team. "The Vet" is less than 90 minutes from the farm near Dyersville where game scenes from the movie Field of Dreams (1989) were shot.
The original Veterans Memorial Stadium opened in 1949 on the same piece of ground on which the Kernels' current home sits. It helped Cedar Rapids land an Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League franchise. The current park - sometimes called Veterans Memorial Stadium II - opened on the former's parking lot in 2002.
MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization greatly expanded existing standards for stadiums hosting affiliated teams. The necessary upgrades for Cedar Rapids, funded jointly by the team and the city, were completed in time for the Kernels' 2023 home opener. They were showcased at an Open House that April 18th, a week after the home opener and while the Kernels were on their first road trip of the year.
Before the 2009 season, the Cedar Rapids-based Perfect Game baseball development program bought playing-field naming rights. PG changed the name - slightly - going into the 2023 campaign by naming it for its philanthropic organization, The Perfect Game Cares Foundation.
