From BR Bullpen

Chisoxfan: Question. I have been working on the Ohio-State League Page. It will wind up with about 18 years. That makes for a long contents box. I know I can cut out using the large year breaks and stop that but I do not know if that is the policy or if there is a better way? Give me some feed back if you would. Thanks--Dugout 18:46, 23 November 2006 (EST) Chisox: After my note to you I recalled the way I did the Western League Page. That worked pretty good....what do you think? --Dugout 18:58, 23 November 2006 (EST)

Chisoxfan: I hope you get my thanks for your help note. I never know for sure that I am sending things the right way. I do appreciate your seeing what it was I wanted to accomplish. Your layout is very pro. I think that makes it very easy for anyone who wants to go from team to team. My friends have told me that they have difficulty navigating the site. When I do something I try to make it as easy to bring up as I know how. Again, thanks.--Dugout 19:03, 21 November 2006 (EST)

Chisoxfan: I have deleted nothing in my pages that anyone but myself contributed. I have been doing nothing out of the ordinary. I have been attacked personally and with malice and I do not intend to be ridiculed in the manner that I have been recently subjectd to. My e-mail is isa4130@comcast.net. I have nothing to quarral with you about and do not want to...but if you have any questions or comments for me just mail me and we can discuss it. I am sorry that this note had to come about and if some how I have offended you I apoligize. Thanks for your time--Dugout 10:45, 20 November 2006 (EST)

I was a Chisox fan, too, from 1990-2005. I gave it up in protest over the way they treated Frank Thomas. Anyway, you've probably noticed I'm doing biographies for some of the lesser-known White Sox players such as McKay Christensen, Jeff Liefer, Mike Caruso, etc. I'm also Frank's fiercest defender. - Randy 7:56 29 July 2006 (EST)

Would it not be a good idea to keep Ebbetts Field redirect page as it is a common spelling mistake? --Pti 10:12, 5 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Hello Chisoxfan, please edit my Gary Matthews, Jr. article I did today. It doesn't have to be fancy. Thanks. user: dbrewer18tx 13:10 10 October 2006 (CDT)

Thanks very much, Chisoxfan! That's basically the touch-up I wanted for Gary Matthews, Jr. at this time. -- user:dbrewer18tx 8:04 (CDT) 11 October, 2006.

Templates for teams in the league[edit]

Chisoxfan (working the night before game 3?)

I think it might be useful to turn the list of teams for the various minor leagues into a template.

I described how to do it on the talk page for the Southern League --Admin 23:41, 13 Oct 2005 (EDT)

If it's any help, I have a file of all minor league teams going back into the nineteenth century that I digitized from Lloyd Johnson's Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball. I have not kept it up but it was the basis for work at baseball databank. - Ron (auricle99@aol.com)

Number one picks[edit]

Thank you for covering my lazy butt and getting all of those added.

A question from a fellow admin[edit]

Hi, I'm also an admin on Wikipedia, and we have a fact-checking process that involves slapping tags saying [citation needed] on facts that need citing from a respectable source (e.g. USA Today, a book, or a baseball site that does news in our case). Do you think this is a good idea? IndiansFan 22:57, 29 July 2006 (EDT)

MLB.com[edit]

That's when they joined the staff. Retrosheet has their first game, like when they were a AAA call up. --Scott 21:08, 8 August 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for taking care of the umpires. I was going to do them tonight. --Scott 20:26, 9 August 2006 (EDT)

Category tags[edit]

Thanks for the idea about the category tags. I guess my problem is that I get so wrapped up in the prose, that I forgot the meta-stuff. - Randy 14:38 10 August 2006 (EDT)

When creating new player pages[edit]

The March and April birthdates/deathdates were complete. When adding new pages, please add the players to the appropriate page. I'm going back and getting those you did this weekend, just suggesting it for the future. I am working on February's births and deaths presently. - --Mischa 15:50, 17 September 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for the help with the 2006 debuts --Just me 22:55, 13 October 2006 (EDT)

Going off the discussion page, that's all, but Jeremy Brown wasn't on it, and Randy caught that one --Just me 22:57, 13 October 2006 (EDT)

Thanks also for the edits on wkephart and some of the other new posters who don't wikify the content. I'm catching up on a couple days off and it's nice to see others doing a fair amount of editing. - --Mischa 21:57, 15 October 2006 (EDT)

AAGPBL players[edit]

Thanks for all the new pages. Are you going to cover every player? If so, could you slow down a bit - I can't add the Jan-May 20 birth and death dates as quickly as the pages are being created. I'm filling in a few stubs, but leaving most for another time. - --Mischa 21:41, 1 January 2007 (EST)

Image Tags (February 2007)[edit]

Greetings Chisoxfan.

Thank you for uploading following images to the BR Bullpen. However, these images are missing source and/or copyright information as required by the image use policy. For ease of identification, image tags are often used to indicate sourcing, license status, or both. If the required information for images is not added within 7 days it will be deleted.

Ronovsky[edit]

Looks like we both started editing Ronovsky's bio at the same time. Who wants first crack? - --Mischa 21:03, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

I finished it up. If you want to do a double-check, feel free. - --Mischa 21:40, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Re: Image tags[edit]

You should link you name (I'm presuming that you are Tim O'Brien) to your user page to better show the source. --MichaelEng (talk) 16:49, 25 March 2007 (EDT)

Images[edit]

Tim, where do you find the Creative Commons images? - --Mischa 08:42, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Just asking so I can find some. It'd be nice to have a source for pictures. - --Mischa 09:28, 3 October 2007 (EDT)

Rosters[edit]

For your White Sox roster templates, did you know there's a much easier way to create them? See Template:2007 Cincinnati Reds. You may have already known this, but just wanted to see.   jj137 (Talk) 22:14, 30 November 2007 (EST)

No problem; I usually get confused with templates myself.   jj137 (Talk) 22:30, 30 November 2007 (EST)

Notes[edit]

Unless you have complete year-by-year stats for a player, please use the stub feature. Also, DEFAULTSORT makes categorizing easier and saves on typing and don't forget to leave out categories (ex. minor league coaches for Jeff Andrews, the category he has spent most of his career in). Thanks for filling in some basics on "Most Wanted" people like Phipps and Niemann. - --Mischa 20:53, 11 December 2007 (EST)

Barrett/Boggs photo[edit]

Can you find public domain images of Everett Scott, Cliff Curtis and Rudy York? - --Mischa 16:54, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

Thanks. - --Mischa 19:33, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

Re: Wanted pages

Be my guest. I was just picking out some minor league manager guys, as that's more my interest. Its funny that 10 links would have been at the top of the wanted pages list when I started contributing here. Now there's 15 or 20 pages with 50 links. --Jeff 17:21, 2 May 2008 (EDT)

Birthplaces[edit]

Don't trust "birthplaces" listed on many sites for 2007 minor league debuts when they are the name of the town in which the player went to school. Lots of these are wrong. Team media guides or their college website bios often have the right info. See Shawn Roof or Ryan Acosta for instance. - --Mischa 12:02, 20 May 2008 (EDT)

New pages[edit]

When making new pages, a couple notes:

1) Remember to include the "Births in xxxx" and "Deaths in xxxx" (when appropriate) categories. I know these weren't around when the bullpen began but it's common practice now.

2) Remember to link to BR Minors when a page exists. I've noticed you do it sometimes (Strieby, Taloa) and not others (Bedient Jr.) - --Mischa 13:16, 28 February 2010 (EST)

Joe Gallagher and Jackie Robinson[edit]

Back in 2006, you added a line on Joe Gallagher's page that he had been Jackie Robinson's roommate with the Montréal Royals. Do you remember what your source for this was. I checked with Marcel Dugas, who recently published a book about Robinson's 1946 season with the Royals, and it was new to him. It would be of interest if a reliable reference could be found. Thanks.
