Biographical Information[edit]
Tzu-Sung Wang played in the CPBL for 8 years. His uncles are NPB pitcher Taigen Kaku and Taiwanese national team infielder Fu-Chia Kuo.
Wang represented Taiwan in the 1993 World Youth Championship. The Uni-President Lions drafted him in the second round of the 2003 CPBL Draft, and he hit .198/.341/.226 in his rookie year. He still struggled in 2004 as his batting line was .157/.257/.231, and he was 0-for-1 in the 2004 Taiwan Series. The Lions were beaten by the Sinon Bulls in 7 games. Due to his poor batting, Wang was mainly used as a defense replacement in the next two seasons, and he only had 86 at-bats combined. He was 4-for-8 in the 2006 CPBL Playoff Series to help tie Lions advance, and he was 2-for-10 in the 2006 Taiwan Series. The Lions were swept by the La New Bears.
The Tainan native bounced back in 2007, hitting .259/.297/.324 in 64 games. He was 4-for-6 with 2 doubles in the 2007 CPBL Playoff Series, but he only had a 0-for-10 record in the 2007 Taiwan Series. The Lions still beat the Bears in 7 games, and Wang won his first title. He then hit .273/.383/.351 in 2008, and he won another title as the Lions beat the Brother Elephants in 7 games in the 2008 Taiwan Series; he was 0-for-4 in the series through. Wang batted .274/.326/.376 in 2009, and he was 3-for-6 with 2 doubles to help the Lions beat the Brothers in 7 games again in the 2009 Taiwan Series. However, his batting line fell to .213/.262/.347 in 2010, and he announced his retirement. He then coached the Lions from 2011 to 2015, and he scouted for the Fubon Guardians in 2017.
Overall, Wang had hit .213/.293/.285 with 156 hits and 7 homers in 8 seasons in the CPBL.
