Biographical Information[edit]
Tsuyoshi Ishizaki pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.
Ishizaki was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the second round of the 2014 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons mainly in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only pitched 18 games combined with the big club. Ishizaki lead the Western League with 10 saves in his rookie year. He improved to a 1.17 ERA in 26 appearances in 2017. In the 2017 CLCS, he only pitched 1/3 of a inning and allowed a pair of singles to Yoshi Tsutsugo and Toshiro Miyazaki; Takahashi Akifumi relieved him and struck out Seiya Hosokawa to end this inning. Ishizaki bounced back and completed 2 2/3 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts (against Toshihiko Kuramoto, Joe Wieland and Hiroki Minei), but the Yokohama BayStars still eliminated the Tigers.
The Ibaraki native then made it onto Japan's roster for the 2017 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. Ishizaki pitched 1 2/3 innings against South Korea, with a strikeout against Ja-wook Koo in the opener, then pitched a shutout inning with a strikeout of Ji-hyuk Ryu in the Gold Medal game to help Japan beat South Korea and win Gold. However, he struggled in 2018 as he pitched 12 games with a 4.20 ERA, and the Tigers traded him to the Chiba Lotte Marines in the middle of the 2019 season for Keisuke Takano. Ishizaki only pitched 14 more games for the Marines in 3 seasons, then he announced his retirement after the 2021 season.
Overall, Ishizaki was 1-2 with a 4.13 ERA, collected 11 holds, struck out 91 and pitched 85 innings in 6 years in NPB.
