Biographical Information[edit]
Tomohiro Anraku pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Anraku represented Japan in the 2013 U-18 Baseball World Cup. He struck out 16 in a win over Venezuela, saved Taisuke Yamaoka's win over Canada and threw a complete game to beat Cuba's Arbelio Quiróz. In 18 innings, he allowed eight hits and no walks or runs while whiffing 27 for the second-place team. He trailed only Se-woong Park in wins, led in ERA (1/3 more shutout inning than Cheng-Hsien Lin) and tied Yuki Matsui for the most strikeouts. He won the All-Star starting pitcher award. [1]
He was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the first round of the 2014 NPB draft, and he only pitched one game with the big club in his first season. He went 3-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 2016, and he pitched for Japan in the 2016 U-23 Baseball World Cup, going 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA; he beat Taiwan's Yen-Ching Lu and lost to Panama's Alberto Guerrero. [2] Anraku was 1-5 with a 4.06 ERA in 2017, but he missed most of the next two seasons due to right shoulder injury. He was moved to bullpen in 2020, and he recorded a 3.48 ERA in 27 games that season.
The Matsuyama native improved to 22 holds with a 2.08 ERA in 58 games in 2021, and he was 8th in the Pacific League in holds (tied with Yuki Karakawa) and 6th in appearances (tied with Shinya Kayama). He pitched 52 games with 13 holds and a 4.38 ERA in 2022, and he had a 3.04 ERA in 57 games and 10 holds in 2023. He was 4th in appearances in '23, between Naoya Masuda and Yuki Tsumori. However, Anraku was involved in a bullying scandal after that season, and the Golden Eagles released him. He signed with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in 2024, and he notched 20 holds with a 3.50 ERA in 47 games.
Overall, Anraku was 18-21 with a 3.59 ERA, collected 50 holds and 3 saves in 231 appearances, struck out 277 and pitched 365 2/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
