Biographical information

Infielder Tom Allison played in the New York Mets system from 1990 to 1994. He later was a scouting director.

Taken by the Mets in the 48th round of the 1990 amateur draft (2 rounds before they took Rick Helling), Allison began his professional career at the age of 22. He spent most of the season with the Pittsfield Mets (59 games), though he also spent a game with the GCL Mets. Combined, he hit .244/.354/.311 with one home run, 15 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 60 games. He fielded .955 at second base, his main position.

He split 1991 between the Columbia Mets (43 G, .322/.423/.463), St. Lucie Mets (22 G, .162/.247/.176) and the Williamsport Bills (31 G, .225/.314/.292), hitting a combined .250/.343/.335 with one home run, 26 RBI and 19 stolen bases while only being caught four times. A utility man, he played all four infield spots as well as the outfield.

1992 was another split-season, as Allison spent time with the Binghamton Mets (59 games) and Tidewater Tides (5 games), hitting a combined .260/.362/.362 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 64 games. He split 1993 between Binghamton and the Norfolk Tides, hitting .207/.325/.274 with no home runs and 8 RBI in 76 games. He wrapped up his career with Binghamton in 1994, hitting .200/.200/.200 in seven matches.

Overall, Allison hit .241/.344/.320 with four home runs, 64 RBI and 35 stolen bases (in 45 attempts) in 303 games over five minor league seasons.

He was the Mets assistant scouting director from 1995 to 1996 and their area scouting supervisor from 1996 to 1999. From 2000 to 2006, he was a scouting crosschecker for the Milwaukee Brewers. Allison was then the director of scouting for the Arizona Diamondbacks before being replaced by Ray Montgomery in 2011. He was the Midwest regional cross checker for the Boston Red Sox. He was Director of Pro Scouting for the Seattle Mariners in 2013. In 2015, he was promoted to head of all baseball scouting operations. He stayed with Seattle through 2020, then joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as a special assignment scout in 2021.
