Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Tokichi Ishimaru dropped out of college and played for Moji Tetsudo Kanrikyoku in the Japanese industrial leagues. He played for Nagoya of the Japanese Professional Baseball League in the league's first season, the spring of 1937, hitting .276/.390/.301. He was 9th in average (between Masao Nishimura and Kazuo Kito) and missed the top ten in OBP by .001 behind Norikazu Mizutani. The Nagoya second baseman batted .218/.316/.284 with four triples, tied for 5th in the JPBL. He hit a homer, his only home run in 1,222 at-bats. He fell to .194/.310/.194 in 1938 then did not play for two years.

Returning to Nagoya in 1941, he really struggled with nearly as many errors (9) as hits (11), batting .096/.218/.113 in 35 games. He was their starter at second in 1942, with a batting line of .175/.253/.197. In the same role the next year, hitting .172/.329/.201. He drew 71 walks in 83 games, tying Shinichi Nakamura for 3rd in the league in walks. He played for the Shochiku Robins in 1951 but did not bat. He slashed .185/.297/.214 with 48 RBI, 125 runs scored, 33 stolen bases, 193 walks and 94 strikeouts in 326 career games. He later became president of a taxi company.

His grandson Taisuke Ishimaru played in the American minor leagues and his brother Shinichi Ishimaru played in JPBL, as well.
