Biographical Information[edit]
Tim Talton had a notable debut with the Kansas City Athletics in 1966. In 37 games (53 at-bats) he hit .340 and slugged .547. This was even more impressive because it was the second dead-ball era and the team as a whole hit .236. The regular catcher for the team, Phil Roof, hit .209. In his second year with the team in 1967, Talton hit .254 (the team average was .233) and slugged .339 (the team slugging average was .330). Tim, a catcher, also played some first base.
Talton had been at East Carolina University in 1958. He and Floyd Wicker were the only players out of East Carolina University to make their major league debuts during the 1960s.
He spent many years in the minors before getting his major league chance. Starting in 1959 with the St. Cloud Rox, Tim always hit at least .260 and once hit as high as .329. With the AAA Tacoma Giants in 1963 and 1964 he alternated at catcher with Bob Barton and in 1964 also with Randy Hundley.
After his major league days Tim hit over .300 with the Birmingham A's in 1968 and the Iowa Oaks in 1969.
He was on a 1967 Topps Rookie Stars Card along with Ramon Webster.
