Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Tim Hallgren played eight seasons in the minor leagues, then became a scout.

He was a 14th-round pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 1977 amateur draft, out of high school and began his pro career that same year with the Bellingham Mariners of the Northwest League, going 3-2, 4.76 in 11 games. In 1978, he split his season between Bellingham and the Stockton Mariners of the California League, going 3-4, 5.49. He then moved across the country in 1979, joining the Alexandria Mariners of the Carolina League for their only season. Used as a long reliever and spot starter, he had a rough year, finishing at 2-6, 6.75 in 17 games. He then improved significantly in 1980 and 1981, pitching both years with the San Jose Missions, back in the California League. He was 4-6, 4.21 the first year and 7-1, 2.21 the second, working full-time as a starter both years.

He moved to the Oakland Athletics organization in 1982, having been acquired from the Mariners along with OF Rusty McNealy in return for P Roy Thomas on December 9, 1981. He spent the season with three different teams, the Madison Muskies, the Modesto A's and the West Haven A's, reaching AA for the first time. Combined, he went 1-2, 5.56 in 20 games, as a long reliever and spot starter once again. He missed all of the 1983 season then was back in San Jose in 1984, this time with the San Jose Bees, an unaffilitated team in the California League. He pitched well in 15 starts, with an ERA of 3.15 (although part of this was giving up an unusually high number of unearned runs, likely the result of a sub-par defence playing behind him) but ended up 2-8. Still, it was enough to raise the interest of the Texas Rangers, who signed him for 1985. In his final season as a player, he played for three teams, including the only 4 appearances of his career in AAA with the Oklahoma City 89ers. His combined record was 6-5, 3.19.

He went into scouting after his playing career. He rose to scouting director with the Texas Rangers in the late 1990s, but left the organization in 2002. In 2008, he was named scouting director of the Los Angeles Dodgers under Assistant General Manager Logan White, having joined the organization in 2003. In 2010, he moved to the Detroit Tigers as a national cross-checker.
