Biographical Information[edit]
Tim Elko has played as high as AAA and has been on Team USA.
Elko hit .394 in high school and was rated as one of the top 100 high schoolers by Perfect Game. [1] As a college freshman, he hit .212/.250/.327, backing up Tyler Keenan at third base. His sophomore year, he moved to the outfield and was still a backup, batting .212/.316/.364. In the COVID-19-shortened 2020, he batted .354/.373/.667 with 15 RBI in 14 games.
His fourth year in college, he produced at a .325/.444/.675 clip with 16 homers and 55 RBI in 49 games. He was named the Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. [2] Due to the pandemic, he had a 5th year of eligibility, in which he hit .300/.407/.642 with 63 runs, 24 home runs and 75 RBI in 65 contests. He helped the school win the 2022 College World Series, their first College World Series title, and made the All-Tournament team at first base. [3]
The Chicago White Sox picked him in the 10th round of the 2022 amateur draft and he signed for a $35,000 bonus. The scout was Warren Hughes. [4] He split the summer between the ACL White Sox (4-for-26, 3 HR, BB, 9 RBI in 7 G) and Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (.271/.292/.414 in 17 G). His second pro season, he put up big numbers with Kannapolis (.297/.360/.556, 17 HR, 57 RBI in 66 G), the Winston-Salem Dash (.319/.374/.569, 26 RBI in 31 G) and the Birmingham Barons (.269/.292/.431 in 34 G). Overall, he had 80 runs, 28 homers, 106 RBI and 165 strikeouts. He was second in the White Sox chain in runs (9 behind Terrell Tatum), second in hits (149, one shy of Wilfredo Veras), 6th in doubles (25), tied Ryan McCarthy for 4th in triples (4), first in homers (7 ahead of José Rodríguez), second in extra-base hits (two behind Veras), first in RBI (13 ahead of Veras), second in strikeouts, first in total bases (22 more than Veras) and first in slugging. He was 5th in the minor leagues in RBI, between Cody Thomas and Jake Scheiner.
Elko slipped a bit in 2024, which he spent with Birmingham (.289/.338/.420 in 91 G) and the Charlotte Knights (.289/.361/.472 in 48 G). He had 18 homers, 73 RBI and 173 whiffs for the year. Among Pale Hose minor leaguers, he was 3rd in runs (70, behind Rikuu Nishida and Mark Payton), 6th in doubles (23), tied Colson Montgomery for first in home runs, tied Ryan Galanie for second in RBI and first in K (9 more than Montgomery). Making the US team for the 2024 Premier 12, he backed up Luke Ritter at first base and played some DH. He struck out against Puerto Rico's Jorge Benítez his first time up and went 0-for-9 with a walk (from Po-Ching Chen) for the third-place US team. [5]
