Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Mark Payton was drafted three times, lastly by the New York Yankees in the 7th round of the 2014 amateur draft. In his first pro season, he batted .320/.418/.497 in 48 games between two teams. He reached Triple A for the first time in 2016 (hitting .429 in 7 at-bats). Between his junior and senior seasons at the University of Texas, he had a streak of reaching base safely in 101 straight games.

He was a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star and MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2016.

He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds from the Oakland Athletics in 2019 Rule V Draft. A year earlier, the Athletics had taken him from the Yankees in the minor league portion of the 2018 Rule V Draft.

Mark's brother, Jack Payton, a catcher, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 11th round of the 2023 amateur draft.
