Biographical Information[edit]
Tim Costo played two years in the majors with the Cincinnati Reds.
Tim was born in Melrose Park, IL, a western suburb of Chicago. He went to high school a bit farther west and went farther west still to the University of Iowa, where he attended with Cal Eldred and the first Chris Hatcher. He was a first round pick in 1990 by the Cleveland Indians. Costo started in A+ ball and hit .316; halfway through the following year, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for Reggie Jefferson. After playing in 1992 for the Chattanooga Lookouts and hitting 28 home runs, he was brought up to the big leagues for 12 games in September. He looked good in 1993 with the Indianapolis Indians, posting a line of .326/.372/.511 and coming to the majors for 31 games. His performance with the Reds was not overwhelming: .224/.267/.343 with three homers in 43 games. Tim was able to get into only 19 games in 1994 with Indianapolis, and the next two years he found himself back in the Cleveland Indians organization again, playing for the Buffalo Bisons and hitting under .250. He had a year in the St. Louis Cardinals' organization, hitting .303 with decent power for the Louisville Redbirds, but did not get a chance to play in the bigs. I n his last year, he was in the Toronto Blue Jays organization with the Syracuse SkyChiefs, hitting .296 and slugging .471.
Since his playing days, he has worked in the Chattanooga area for Rick Honeycutt Sportswear, as well as for a concrete service, and has coached at various schools. [1]
