Biographical Information[edit]

"Hey, Kansas City! Ever heard of Chris Hatcher? Ever checked his stats? You're 64-75 for Pete's sake! Call him up! Give him a shot!" - part of a column by a sportswriter from Chris Hatcher's home town, wondering why the Royals had not called him up when he was having a great season in the minors

Chris Hatcher played over a decade in the minors, hitting over 200 home runs. In the year that he came to the majors, 1998, he had 46 minor league home runs.

The Washington Post wrote a long and excellent article about Hatcher on September 20, 1998 about being a minor league star who finally got his chance at the majors. The article says he was all-state in three sports in high school (and almost all-state in a fourth), and was a tremendous star in college as a two-time All American.

He married his high school sweetheart.

When he hit 46 home runs in 1998, it was the most that any minor leaguer had hit in a season since 1982.

As a track star in high school, he did shot put and discus.
