Biographical Information[edit]

Thierry Letouzé has pitched for the Austrian national team.

He debuted in the Austrian Baseball League with the 2009 Vienna Metrostars, pitching one shutout inning and going 1 for 8 with 3 walks and 3 runs. [1] In 2010, he was 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA but struggled at the plate (1 for 21, 2 R, RBI). In '11, he was 1 for 4 and did not pitch. The next year, he hit .240/.345/.280 and threw a scoreless inning. 2013 was another poor offensive campaign (2 for 18, 2B) but he was 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA. He did not play in 2014.

In 2015, he was 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA for Vienna, while going 1 for 4 at the plate. A year later, he was 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA and went 1 for 6 with a walk. For the 2017 Metrostars, he was 2 for 9 with a walk and 4-2 with a 3.71 ERA. He allowed a .189 average, third in the ABL (behind Chris Squires and Ryan Rupp) and tied for 9th in wins. [2]

Letouzé was again 4-2 in 2018 but his ERA rose to 5.40. He was 2 for 4 with a double. He tied for 8th in the league in victories. [3] In '19, he was 1-1 with a 6.66 ERA and walked over a batter per inning; he did not bat. He still was 7th in the league with a .229 opponent average, between former Tigers farmhand Adenson Verastegui and Rupp. [4] While he did not bat in the regular season, he was 0 for 2 in the 2019 Federations Cup (but did not pitch). [5]

Despite the rocky 2019, he debuted for Austria in the 2019 European Championship. His only outing was a mismatch against long-time power Italy and former Royals minor leaguer Andrea Pizziconi. He allowed a homer to the first batter he faced, Drew Maggi, then walked Aldo Koutsoyanopulos and gave up a double to MLB vet John Andreoli. He struck out another major league veteran, Chris Colabello. Giuseppe Mazzanti grounded in a run and Mattia Reginato walked but he retired Alberto Mineo. The next two innings were somewhat better, with one run in each (including an Andreoli homer); he again retired Colabello. Paul Astl relieved with a 4-1 deficit in the 4th and Thierry took the loss. Despite the tough competition, he did not finish with Austria's highest ERA in the event; four others were higher. [6]

The right-hander was excellent in 2020 at 5-0, 2.51. He was 7th in ERA, 7th in opponent average and tied Rupp for 2nd in wins (one behind Tobias Kiefer). [7]
