Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder/catcher Terry Clapp played in the Baltimore Orioles system from 1969 to 1974. He played just a single game at Triple-A, in his final campaign, and never reached the majors leagues. He was taken by the club in the 3rd round of the 1969 amateur draft, one pick ahead of outfielder Horace Speed, a few after notables Alan Ashby and Rawly Eastwick and in the same round as future Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven.

With the Bluefield Orioles in 1969, he hit .325/.372/.533 with 11 home runs and 49 RBI in 60 games. That was a hint of things to come. After a couple down seasons, Clapp slugged 20 home runs in 114 games for the Lodi Orions, while batting .281/.383/.499, in 1972. He had a career year in 1973, hitting .259/.372/.520 with 35 home runs and 98 RBI in 136 games for the Asheville Orioles; he paced the lead in dingers (8 ahead of #2 Gregory Foreman), RBI (5 ahead of #2 Lamar Johnson) and slugging (though Frank Ortenzio slugged .541, he did so in just 378 PAs). He was second in runs (92, 6 behind the leader Rob Andrews) and total bases (239, 6 behind leader Ed Palat). Clapp slipped to .226/.369/.364 with 12 home runs and 51 RBI in 1974. He played his lone game at Triple-A that year, going hitless in a single at-bat for the Rochester Red Wings.

Overall, Clapp hit .265/.364/.443 with 96 and 387 RBI in 668 games.
