- 1924 - In the final game of the first Negro World Series, José Méndez (pictured) throws a three-hit shutout of the Hilldale Daisies to give the Kansas City Monarchs the title.
- 1982 - In their first World Series, the Brewers are unable to hold on to a 3-1 lead in Game 7, dropping the game and Series to the Cardinals.
- 1988 - Mike Davis and Mickey Hatcher homer and Orel Hershiser throws a four-hit shutout to complete the Dodgers' upset of the Athletics in the World Series.
- 1990 - The A's suffer their second upset in three years, as they are swept in the World Series by Cincinnati. Jose Rijo wins his second game of the Series, a 2-1 decision.
- 2001 - Kazuhisa Ishii throws the first one-hitter in Japan Series, opening the 2001 Japan Series with the gem. He shuts down a Kintetsu Buffaloes team featuring the greatest home run duo in Nippon Pro Baseball history, Tuffy Rhodes and Norihiro Nakamura.
