November 15: Today's featured birthday is that of Randy Niemann, who turns 69.
- 1897 - The Cleveland Spiders sign Lou Sockalexis, who will become popular in his brief stay with the club. The team's later Cleveland Indians name has been linked to Sockalexis by some, based on little or no evidence.
- 1912 - Arky Vaughan (pictured) is born. The future superstar is rated by some as the second-best shortstop in National League history after only Honus Wagner.
- 1981 - The Chicago White Sox sign free agent Carlton Fisk , a future Hall of Famer. Fisk will spend the rest of his career with Chicago.
- 1995 - MLB owners unanimously approve the addition of two expansion teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. They will begin play at the major-league level in 1998.
- 2006 - Kelvim Escobar, Tony Armas Jr., Gustavo Chacin, Jorge Julio and Francisco Rodriguez combine on a one-hit, 13-strikeout effort as Venezuela beats Australia, 2-0, in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
