- 1888 - George Van Haltren throws a no-hitter in an exhibition game.
- 1936 - The first trade in the history of Nippon Pro Baseball occurs when the Tokyo Giants send Yukio Eguchi and Nobuaki Nidegawa to the Nagoya Golden Dolphins for... nothing. Nidegawa retires without ever playing a game for Nagoya.
- 1942 - Franklin Delano Roosevelt sends the Green Light Letter, encouraging Major League Baseball to continue during World War II.
- 1970 - The Seattle Pilots get Phil Roof, Lew Krausse Jr., Ken Sanders and Mike Hershberger from the Oakland Athletics in a trade for Ron Clark and Don Mincher.
- 1981 - Bob Gibson (pictured) is elected to the Hall of Fame.
