Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Greg Martinez played part of one year in the majors with the Milwaukee Brewers.

After attending Barstow Community College, Martinez was selected by the Brewers in the 24th round of the 1993 amateur draft. He reached the majors with the club in 1998, making his big league debut on Opening Day, March 31st, which also happened to be the Brewers' first-ever game as a National League team. Facing the Atlanta Braves, he entered the game in the 9th inning as a pinch runner for Jesse Levis and stole second base. He advanced to third when Jeff Cirillo was walked later in the inning but was stranded there as Cirillo was picked off. After seeing action in three more games in early April, he was sent to the AAA Louisville Redbirds, where he spent most of the season. He had additional stints in the majors in July and September and ended his lone major league campaign hitless in 3 at-bats, while scoring 2 runs and stealing 2 bases in 13 games, mostly as a pinch runner or late-inning defensive replacement.

Back with Louisville, Martinez stole 48 bases to lead the 1999 International League.

After playing in the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Devil Rays organizations, Martinez spent time in the independent leagues, Serie A1, and the Mexican League.
