Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Yukio Eguchi was a member of the first Koshien Tournament team from his high school in 1933. He was part of the Yomiuri Giants then was traded to the Nagoya Golden Dolphins in the first year of Japanese pro baseball, 1936 and the first trade in Nippon Pro Baseball history. He hit .318/.429/.409 in 12 games in the spring and .227/.320/.227 in 6 contests in the fall. In 1937, hitting .269/.388/.313 in the spring season and .249/.327/.299 in the fall. He batted .256/.368/.279 in the spring of 1938 and led the Japanese Professional Baseball League with 14 steals. He served in the military the next two years, then went just 5 for 24 with the 1941 Hankyu club. He did worse in 1942, producing at just a .131/.207/.131 rate in 25 games. He finished his career with a batting line of .241/.337/.279 in 192 games. He suffered injuries during World War II and died after the war due to illness resulting from the injuries.
