- 1948 - Stan Musial is named the winner of the 1948 National League Most Valuable Player Award.
- 1952 - The Pittsburgh Pirates select ElRoy Face (pictured) in the 1952 Rule V Draft; he will become one of the greatest relievers in franchise history.
- 1971 - The Baltimore Orioles, fresh off a loss in the 1971 World Series, deal away Frank Robinson and Pete Richert to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Doyle Alexander, Sergio Robles, Bob O'Brien and Royle Stillman.
- 2002 - The Venezuelan League season is cut short as political protests against President Hugo Chavez disrupt the country; many owners of league teams are opponents of Chavez.
