- 1922 - The Eastern Colored League is founded as an East Coast alternative to the Negro National League.
- 1976 - The Cincinnati Reds send Tony Perez and Will McEnaney to the Montréal Expos in exchange for Dale Murray and Woodie Fryman.
- 1991 - The Florida Marlins sign their first player ever, 16-year-old pitcher Clemente Nunez.
- 1996 - Tsuneo Watanabe becomes owner of the Yomiuri Giants. He will become a major force in Nippon Pro Baseball for his high spending and open mouth.
