Biographical Information

Pitcher Ted Gilje was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 20th round of the 1968 amateur draft and pitched six years in the minor leagues, with a record of 34-27.

Gilje debuted with the Ogden Dodgers, going 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA but walking 22 in 31 innings and with a 6.97 RA.

Gilje was an All-Star alongside Don Stanhouse in 1969 for the Rogue Valley Dodgers, finishing fourth in the Northwest League with a 2.85 ERA. He was 4-2 with one save and 82 strikeouts in 79 innings. He was third in the NWL in strikeouts. He also pitched briefly for the Bakersfield Dodgers, allowing five runs in one inning and taking a loss.

He was 14-8 with a save and a 2.95 ERA in 1970 for Bakersfield. He was third in the California League in ERA and his 235 strikeouts were nine behind leader Al Dawson. He tied Clinton Stark for second in wins, trailing Dawson.

Gilje made it to AA in 1971 with the Albuquerque Dodgers and had a 4-9, 3.41 record. He was listed on the Dodgers 1972 spring roster, but never made the majors. He split 1972 between the El Paso Dodgers (3-1, 1.45) and Albuquerque Dukes, making his AAA debut and going 5-4 with a 5.40 ERA there.

Back in Bakersfield in 1973, Ted was 2-1 with 3 saves and a 2.25 ERA in 9 games.
