Biographical Information[edit]

Tao Bu has pitched for the Chinese national team, including in the Olympics.

Bu was with the Chinese squad for the first Konami Cup. He remained with the national team for the 2006 World Baseball Classic, getting shelled for 7 runs in 3 innings of work. He allowed 6 hits, 4 walks and hit 3 batters while striking out two. He led the WBC in hit batsmen, tied with Jose Santiago and Shunsuke Watanabe. His 7 runs allowed tied Vicyohandri Odelin for 5th. He pitched one inning against Japan (3 runs) and two against Taiwan (4 unearned runs).

In the 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week, Bu had a 5.73 ERA and lost two games as one of China's most-used starters, dropping decisions to Cuba and Japan. He was in the Konami Cup and in the 2006 Asian Games. He was China's most-used hurler in the 2007 Arizona Fall League, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 innings.

Bu went 0-2 with a 11.58 in the 2008 Olympics, allowing 18 hits (3 home runs) in 9 1/3 IP. He served up a 2-run homer to Michel Enríquez, a 3-run shot to Scott Thorman and a grand slam to Giorvis Duvergel. Bu was China's 2nd-worst hurler in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, ahead of only Kai Liu. He allowed 3 hits, 3 walks and 4 runs in 1 2/3 IP.
