Talk:Roger Moret

From BR Bullpen

The article refers to Roger leading the league in winning percentage twice. However, the BR page doesn't show his winning percentage in 1973 in bold, perhaps because he pitched less than 162 innings that year. Was he considered the leader at the time? I don't recall. - Randy (talk) 19:41, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

There is no standard number of decisions determine the league leader in winning percentage. I just checked my old copy of the MacMillan Baseball Encyclopedia, and they have Moret as the league leader neither in 1973 nor in 1975, as they probably use a 20-decision minimum. B-Ref lists Catfish Hunter at .808 as the leader in 1973, but Moret was at .867 with his 13-2 record, so Moret was clearly better. He had just 17 decisions in 1975 when he is listed as the leader by B-Ref, so I'm not sure what number is used as the cut-off. Perhaps it's 16 decisions (i.e. 10% of a team's games that year), but there is nothing hard and fast about that number, and other sources used 15 decisions as the cut-off. Thus, it's perfectly valid to say that Moret was the AL winning percentage leader in 1973 given the lack of an agreed standard. Philippe (talk) 20:03, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

The 1974 TSN Guide lists Hunter and his .808 as the league leader (p86). The 1976 TSN Guide lists Torrez and his .690 as the league leader (pp206,228) Jeff (talk) 01:54, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
