Biographical Information

Takashi Takagi was a Nippon Pro Baseball first baseman for 11 years.

Takagi broke in during 1963. He won the minor Western League batting title that year and was also 14 for 65 with 4 doubles, a triple and 3 walks for the Kintetsu Buffaloes. A regular by 1964, he hit .257/.329/.344.

Takagi improved to .304/.374/.428 in a career year in 1965. He made the Pacific League All-Star team and was chosen to the Best Nine as the loop's top first sacker. He finished third in average behind Katsuya Nomura and Daryl Spencer. He ended Kihachi Enomoto's run of six straight Best Nine picks.

Takagi fell to .258/.326/.381 in 1966, with a career-high 10 homers the big positive. He hit .291/.372/.367 in 1967 and made his second All-Star team. He finished 5th in the PL in average, between Carl Boles and Katsuo Osugi.

Moving to the Nishitetsu Lions in 1968, the Hosei alumnus eked out a .245/.367/.325 line. He hit .226/.303/.308 in 1969, .236/.329/.319 in 1970, .280/.339/.341 in 1971 and .284/.342/.353 in 1972. He ended up in 1973, going just 6 for 48 with 5 walks off the bench for the Lions.

In 1,074 games in Nippon Pro Baseball, Takagi had hit .266/.340/.355.
