Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Steve Garrison was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the tenth round of the 2005 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Tony Blengino and made his pro debut that summer with the AZL Brewers. He spent 2006 with the West Virginia Power, for whom he went 7-6 with a 3.45 ERA in 17 appearances. He began the 2007 campaign with the Brevard County Manatees, going 8-4 in 20 starts. Midway through that season, he was dealt to the San Diego Padres along with Will Inman and Joe Thatcher for Scott Linebrink, and he was 2-3 with a 2.79 ERA in 7 starts for the Lake Elsinore Storm after the trade.
Garrison spent the entire 2008 season with the AA San Antonio Missions, going 7-7 in 24 starts and posting a 3.82 ERA, seventh-best in the Texas League. Limited to just 13 games between three teams the next summer, he went 1-2 with a 5.56 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 34 innings. Following an injury-plagued 2009 when he 2-4 with a 5.37 ERA in 17 outings between three clubs, he was designated for assignment by the Padres and soon claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees.
After opening the 2011 season with a 3-6 record in a dozen games between the Staten Island Yankees and Trenton Thunder, Garrison was recalled by the Yankees on July 19th, when Sergio Mitre went on the disabled list. He made his big league debut out of the bullpen on July 25th against the Seattle Mariners, retiring both batters he faced. It was the only major league game of his career.
