Biographical Information[edit]

Shu-Jen Liao played in the CPBL for 5 years.

He was drafted by the Wei Chuan Dragons in the first round of the 1994 CPBL Draft, and he hit .211/.250/.263 in 19 at-bats in his rookie year. He only got 68 at-bats combined in the next two seasons, then the Dragons rented him to the China Times Eagles after they lost most of their players in a game-fixing scandal in 1997. Liao hit .247/.299/.340 in 46 games for them, and he was 0-for-9 in the 1997 Taiwan Series. The Dragons beat the Eagles in 6 games, and Liao won his first Taiwan Series title.

The Taichung native then hit .208/.276/.283 in 47 games in 1998 after returning to the Dragons, and he was 0-for-1 in the 1998 Taiwan Series as the Dragons beat the Sinon Bulls in 7 games. On October 17, 1999, Liao was sent to the mound and he pitched a shutout inning. The Dragons miraculously completed a 5-run rally, and Liao got the only win in his career. He was the only player who had at least a win but didn't walk any batters in his career. Liao's batting line fell to .189/.283/.245 in 1999, and he won his third title as the Dragons beat the Chinatrust Whales in 5 games in 1999 Taiwan Series; he was 0-for-2. The Dragons expelled after the 1999 season, and Liao's professional career ended. He started to coach Taichung Agricultural Senior High School in 2009.

Overall, Liao had hit .220/.277/.310 with 78 hits and 5 homers in 5 seasons in the CPBL.
