Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Shoshichi Ito played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Ito was signed by the Mainichi Orions when they were founded in 1950, and he hit .287/.348/.436 in 68 games in his rookie year. He was 4-for-22 in the 1950 Nippon Series, with a 2-run double against Nobuo Oshima in Game 1, and he won his first Nippon Series title as the Orions beat the Shochiku Robins in 6 games. Ito was then selected into the 1951 NPB All-Star Games, and he was 0-for-3. He ended up hitting .303/.348/.468 with 8 homers in 1951, and he led the Pacific League with 28 doubles. He was 6th in batting (between Chusuke Kizuka and Shosei Go), 5th in runs (between Tokuji Iida and Shigeru Sakamoto) and 7th in hits (between Kazuo Horii and Go).

Ito then hit .264/.334/.399 in 1952, and he tied Masakazu Kito for 10th in doubles with 22. He was sent to the Tokyu Flyers in the middle of the 1953 season, but he slumped to .200/.283/.279 with them. Ito hit .230/.336/.319 in 1954, then he jumped to the Chunichi Dragons in 1955. He hit .152/.204/.174 in 32 games in 1955, then he announced his retirement. He coached the Hankyu Braves from 1962 to 1964.

Overall, Ito hit .256/.327/.378 with 372 hits and 25 homers in 6 seasons in the NPB.
