Biographical Information[edit]

Shingo Takeyama has been a catcher in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Takeyama was taken by the Yokohama BayStars in the tenth round of the 2002 NPB draft. After several years in ni-gun, he made it to the big club in 2008. He debuted on May 31 as a defensive substitute for Ryoji Aikawa. His first hit came the next day off Yoshihiro Ito. For the season, he was 17 for 74 with 3 doubles and 3 walks in 33 games. Shingo batted .242/.289/.283 in 2009, serving as the BayStars' main backup catcher. On August 28, he twice was called for interference with Kenta Kurihara batting.

On April 30, 2010, the Aichi native hit his first homer in NPB, a 3-run shot off Shohei Tateyama. It was his only long ball in 257 AB that year - he hit a meek .187/.246/.245 with 15 runs and 22 RBI in 95 games while starting at catcher for Yokohama. Batting 8th, he drew 8 intentional walks, leading the Central League, one ahead of star outfielders Kazuhiro Wada and Norichika Aoki.
