Biographical Information

Shigeki Nakano has played for the Japanese national team. He was 0 for 7 in the 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week then won a Silver Medal at the 2006 Asian Games. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, he was 2 for 6 as Japan's third-string catcher; he threw out the only runner who tried to steal on him. He was named to the industrial league Best Nine as the top catcher in 2010. He was picked to represent Japan in the 2011 Baseball World Cup; starting for them, he went 5 for 17 with no walks, runs, RBI or extra-base hits, fielding .979 and allowing 4 steals in five tries.

He was back with Japan for the 2012 Asian Championship (Gold) and 2013 East Asian Games. In the 2014 Asian Games, he went 3 for 9 with a walk, two doubles, three runs and a RBI with 25 error-free chances as the starting backstop for the Bronze medalists. He saw limited action in the 2015 Asian Championship as Takuya Kinoshita was Japan's starting catcher. He played DH and hit cleanup in a romp of Indonesia to give Toshiyuki Hayashi a day off. He went 2 for 3 with a walk, run and two RBI with two first-inning hits, off Ahmed Effendy and Muhammad Akbar. He was retired in his only other at-bat of the Championship.
