Biographical Information[edit]
Shigeki Nakamoto has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Nakamoto represented Japan in the 1980 Amateur World Series. The Yakult Swallows signed him in 1983, and he had a 2.39 ERA in 12 appearances in that year. He pitched 38 games in 1984, but his ERA was terrible 5.46. He improved to 4.00 ERA in 44 games, then extended his stable pitching in the next two seasons. He recorded a 3.99 ERA in 45 games in 1986, and a 3.42 ERA in 40 games in 1987.
The Swallows changed him into a starting pitcher in 1988, and he was 5-7 with a 3.60 ERA in that season. The Tokushima native was 5-6 with a 4.40 ERA in 1989, but he only pitched 12 games in 1990 because his ERA rose to terrifying 6.04. He came back to bullpen and recorded a solid 1.85 ERA in 1991. He had a 3.83 ERA in 32 appearances in 1992, and the 36-year-old Nakamoto decided to retire after the 1992 season.
After retiring, he joined the Jungo Bears of the CPBL and served as their pitching coach in 1995, but he was fired immediately due to a brawl incident in April. He then transferred to the Uni-President Lions as their pitching coach from 1999 to 2003, and worked for the Macoto Cobras as the same position from 2004 to 2005. He also coached Taiwan in the 1994 Asian Games.
Overall, Nakamoto was 21-26, notched 23 saves with a 3.94 ERA and pitched 603 2/3 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
