Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Sheng-Feng Tsai played in the Olympics and in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

Tsai was with Taiwan for the 1983 Asian Championship (a tie for first), 1983 Intercontinental Cup (a Bronze Medal), 1984 Olympics (a Bronze), 1986 Amateur World Series (a Bronze), 1987 Asian Championship (a Gold) and 1987 Intercontinental Cup. He played in Japan's industrial leagues as well.

The Wei Chuan Dragons selected Tsai in the second round of the 1990 CPBL Draft, but they soon sent him to the Mercuries Tigers. Tsai hit .232/.326/.323 as a rookie pro for the in the 1991 CPBL, and he was 0-for-4 in the 1991 CPBL All-Star Games. In 1992, he batted .229/.307/.299 and stole 21 bases in 27 tries; he finished third in the league in swipes behind I-Tseng Lin and Angel Gonzalez. That would be almost half his career steal total, as he only pilfered 25 bags in his other five years. Tsai also attended the 1992 CPBL All-Star Games, and he was 0-for-11.

His offensive production remained poor for a starting outfielder, hitting .206/.271/.267 in 1993 and then an abysmal .153/.248/.203 in 1994. His playing time finally was reduced in 1995 and he hit .160/.284/.215. In 1996, he batted .215/.323/.291 to end his professional playing career. Tsai later was a minor league coach for the Macoto Cobras, but he was involved in a game-fixing scandal and the league banned for life.

Overall, Tsai had hit .202/.293/.270 with 237 hits and fielded .960 in 420 games in 6 seasons in the CPBL.
