Biographical Information[edit]

Scott Wearne played in the independent leagues and for the Australian national team. He is the brother of Simone Wearne. [1]

Wearne represented Australia in the 2000 World Junior Championship, hitting .500 with 4 steals and 11 runs in their 7 games. He tied Dae-ho Lee for second in average (.059 behind Joe Mauer) and was second to Mauer in hits. It is unclear where he ranked in other departments but among the top 25 in average, he was second with five doubles (one behind Agustín Murillo) and had the most steals. [2] He was named the All-Star third baseman. [3] The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the 41st round of the 2001 Amateur Draft, but he didn't sign. He did not debut in Australia until 2006, when he was 0-for-11 for the Victoria Aces in the Claxton Shield. [4] He next surfaced with Victoria in 2009, batting .250/.400/.389. [5] He improved to .320/.375/.505 with 21 runs in 24 games in the 2009-2010 Shield. He tied Michael Lysaught for the run lead, tied Matt Kennelly for third in doubles (10) and was 9th in slugging. [6]

He then appeared with the Brockton Rox in 2010, and he hit .300/.370/.411 with 10 steals for them. Wearne recorded a .271/.372/.443 batting line for the Melbourne Aces in the 2010-2011 Australian Baseball League, and he represented his nation in the 2011 Baseball World Cup. He hit .160/.276/.180 with six runs in ten games entering the 5th/6th place game, fielding .818. He tied Jason Zachos and Ángel Chávez for fourth with four errors but led with nine runners advanced. In the 5th/6th place game, though, he was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI and handled two assists error-free as a key component in a 3-2 win over Taiwan. [7]

The Melbourne native then slumped to .221/.297/.313 in 2011-2012, then his batting line was .238/.279/.381 in 2012-2013. Wearne batted .235/.276/.296 in 2013-2014, then his batting line fell to .196/.224/.216 in 2014-2015. That was his last season as a full-time professional player, and he recorded an at-bat in 2019-2020. He played every position during his career.
