Biographical Information[edit]

Ángel Chávez played 10 games in the big leagues with the 2005 San Francisco Giants, batting .263 with a double and an RBI in 19 at bats.

The Giants signed Ángel in 1998, playing in their system from 1998 to 2005. He played mostly shortstop and third base in the rookie league or Single A ball mostly, moving up to Double A in 2004 and Triple A ball for much of 2005. In 2006, he left the Giants organization and split his time with three teams between the Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles organizations, playing 67 games in Double A and 63 games in Triple A ball. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Chávez hit .182/.250/.318 and made three errors in six games at shortstop. He was then 2 for 8 for Panama in the 2009 WBC, singling off Javier Vazquez and Julian Tavarez; on the light-hitting squad, his 500 OPS was good enough for 4th place behind Luis Durango, Carlos Ruiz and Javier Castillo. Last spotted with the Sioux Falls Canaries in independent ball in 2015, he finished 11 minor league seasons with a .268/.310/.391 line in 1,176 games.
