Biographical Information[edit]

Scott Olsen was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 6th round of the 2002 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Scot Engler and made his pro debut that summer. He was known for a number of controversial incidents during his baseball career.

In 2006, Olsen went off on his teammates, feeling they weren't helping him out enough, and was punched in the face by teammate Randy Messenger. Olsen tried to go after him, but was pulled by his collar and yelled at by Joe Girardi. On July 9, 2006, Olsen got upset at teammate Miguel Cabrera after Cabrera misplayed a ball hit by Paul Lo Duca, resulting in an RBI double for Lo Duca. After the half inning ended, Olsen began yelling at Cabrera, to which Cabrera retaliated by pushing his way through the crowded dugout and pointing his finger in Olsen's face. Olsen didn't like this much and attempted to swing at Cabrera before the two were separated.

In September of 2006, Olsen said he hates the Philadelphia Phillies with all his heart because they always beat the Marlins when they faced each other. This led to Phillies fans making fun of Olsen every time he faced the team. In May of 2007, Olsen got upset that Chase Utley called time-out right before he was about to deliver the next pitch. The next pitch he threw missed for ball four, and Olsen began shouting at Utley as he was on his way to first base.

A month later, Olsen was fined for giving some Milwaukee Brewers fans the middle finger.

On July 15, Olsen blew up at his teammates again during a game against the Washington Nationals. His teammates confronted him, and Olsen tore off his jersey and threw it on the ground.

Olsen was arrested later that month after a fight with police officers. He was charged with driving under the influence, resisting an officer with violence and fleeing and eluding a police officer, and was released on a $11,000 bond.

On November 11, 2008, Olsen was traded to the Washington Nationals along with Josh Willingham in exchange for Emilio Bonifacio, Jake Smolinski, and P.J. Dean. Olsen played for the Nationals in 2009 and 2010. After this he signed a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 2011 but got injured before the regular season, and never pitched in another major league game.

Olsen retired from baseball in 2014.
