Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher P.J. Dean played two seasons in the minor leagues after being selected in the 7th round of the 2007 amateur draft by the Washington Nationals out of a high school in Texas. He had signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Oklahoma but renounced it in order to sign with the Nationals and scout Donie Randell, who offered a signing bonus equivalent to that of a higher pick in order to convince him. In 2007, he went 3-1, 4.06 in 9 games for the GCL Nationals of the Gulf Coast League and in 2008, he made 10 starts for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League, finishing at 4-1, 1.57.

On November 11, 2008, he was included in a major league trade in which the Nationals traded Emilio Bonifacio, Jake Smolinski and him to the Miami Marlins in retirn for two major leaguers, Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham. Unfortunately, he never was able to pitch in the Marlins organization, his career being ended by arm issues.
