Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Scott Oberg began playing in the Colorado Rockies minor league system in 2012. He was taken by the club in the 15th round of the 2012 amateur draft.

With the Grand Junction Rockies in 2012, Oberg had a 2.33 ERA with 13 saves in 25 games. In 56 games for the Modesto Nuts in 2013, he had a 1.86 ERA with 33 saves, striking out 61 batters in 53 1/3 innings. He partook in a no-hitter on June 24th of that year, relieving Nelson Gonzalez, who himself had relieved Daniel Winkler, against the San Jose Giants.

He spent 2014 with the Tulsa Drillers of the AA Texas League, going 0-1 with 15 saves in 27 outings. He started 2015 with the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes, but after only one appearance, he was called up to Denver when reliever John Axford had to take family leave because his young son was recovering from a rattlesnake bite. Oberg was the winner in his major league debut on April 14th. It was a bit of a vulturish win, as starter Christian Bergman had pitched four scoreless innings and handed him a 4-0 lead; he was then the first of five relievers to pitch an inning each and got credit for the W, as he allowed no runs on one hit as Colorado defeated the San Francisco Giants, 4-1. He got a rough welcome to the reality of big league baseball a week later, on April 19th, when facing the Los Angeles Dodgers in relief of Eddie Butler, he allowed homers to Howie Kendrick, Scott Van Slyke and Joc Pederson in a five-run 6th inning as the Rockies went down, 7-0.
