Biographical Information[edit]

Scott Demetral is the brother of Chris Demetral, Mike Demetral and Ted Demetral and the nephew of Jim Essian.

Scott was a third baseman in college. In 1995, he hit .360 and was named second-team All-Mid-American Conference. He finished among WMU's top 10 all-time players with 201 hits. He hit .273/.344/.342 for the '95 Ogden Raptors, an independent team in Organized Baseball. Moving on to the independent leagues, he batted .280 for the 1996 Kalamazoo Kodiaks and was 2 for 21 for the Meridian Brakemen.

In 1997, Demetral hit .329 for the Allentown Ambassadors to conclude his professional career. He was 7th in the Northeast League in average. From 1997-2000, he was an assistant coach at WMU before serving in the same role for the University of Akron from 2000-2004.

He played for Greece in the 2002 European Championship B Pool, hitting .571 with 5 homers and 13 RBI in six games, helping Greece win the first tournament it ever entered. In the 2003 European Championship, he was 2 for 5 with a run and 3 RBI off the bench. Demetral coached for Greece in the 2004 Olympics.

Leaving Akron, Demetral returned to Western Michigan as an assistant from 2005-2010. Demetral left baseball, going to work for a Hospice Care company.
