Ryan Schurman pitched in pro baseball for 14 years, reaching the AA level.

Schurman was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 10th round of the 1995 amateur draft. He was 1-6 as a starter with a 6.75 ERA for the GCL Braves that summer. In 1996, he moved to the bullpen and went 2-4 with a save and a 4.96 ERA for the Danville Braves, whiffing 49 in 45 1/3 IP. Back in the starting rotation, he posted a 4-6, 3.23 record for the 1997 Eugene Emeralds, and was chosen the Emeralds pitcher of the year, by the Braves Organization. He was 5th in the Northwest League in ERA, between Scott Key and Matt Wise and tied Jordy Alexander for second in IP (86 1/3, two behind Mike Riley).

After being selected a South Atlantic League All-Star, then suffering an illness and DL stint, Schurman finished the season starting only 9 games with 61 innings pitched and going 2-4 with a 4.34 ERA for the 1998 Macon Braves, Atlanta let Schurman go. He was then picked up by the Cincinnati Reds and assigned to the Clinton LumberKings in 1999, where he went 3-3 with 2 saves and a 3.54 ERA through 86.1 innings, with 83 K's and 50 bb's. The following season, he was 1-2 with a save and a 4.74 ERA for Clinton in 2000 with only 38 innings pitched, and was released.

Ryan went 10-10 with a 3.42 ERA for the 2001 Camden Riversharks of the Independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He tied Robert Dodd, Ricardo Jordan and Chris Thompson for 8th in the Atlantic League in wins, was 7th in ERA (between former major leaguers Julian Heredia and Jack Armstrong). In 2002, he was 2-0 with a 3.78 ERA for Camden after spending time in the St. Louis Cardinals Organization, where at the start of the season, he suffered a broken wrist to his pitching hand after being struck by a wild pitch attempting a bunt. Back off the DL after 3 months, Schurman then went 0-3 with a 7.06 ERA for the AA New Haven Ravens.

The rest of his playing career was spent in the Independent Atlantic League and Golden Baseball League. He was 3-2 with a 3.49 ERA for Camden in 2003. In 2004, he was with both Camden (3-5, 6.33) and the Bridgeport Bluefish (5-3, 3.73). He tied for 10th in the Atlantic League in wins. With the 2005 Atlantic City Surf, he posted a 8-1, 3.80 record. He followed with a 7-6, 4.06 record for the 2006 Surf. He tied T.J. Mathews for 5th in the loop with 109 K's.

Schurman fell to 7-8, 4.70 in 2007, back with Camden. With the 2008 Calgary Vipers, he was 1-4 with a 11.37 ERA to finish his pro career at 59-68, 4.56 in 319 games (148 starts).

Ryan was pitching coach for the Perth Heat in the 2010-2011 Australian Baseball League who won the ABL Championship that season. In 2014, Ryan was hired by the Western Australia Cricket Association as a throwing/fielding coach for the Perth Scorchers in the Australian Big Bash League, who went on to win the BBL Championship. Ryan Founded and is the Director of BaseballToCricket, and is also a Consultant for the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau covering Western Europe.
