Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Wise pitched 8 seasons in the majors, between 2000 and 2008. he was with the Anaheim Angels, the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Mets. He was mainly a starter in his first two seasons, both with Anaheim, then was a reliever for the rest of his career except for 3 starts in 2004. Most of his big league appearances came with the Brewers.

In 2020, he was appointed bullpen coach of the Los Angeles Angels under manager Joe Maddon. Just before spring training started in 2021, he was promoted to pitching coach on an interim basis due to the suspension of Mickey Callaway. The interim tag was dropped on May 26th, following the findings of MLB's investigation, which confirmed that Callaway had acted inappropriately and placed Callaway on the ineligible list. Wise stayed in the position until the end of the 2023 season, then moved over to the Chicago White Sox as assistant pitching coach in 2024.
