Biographical Information

Pitcher Ryan Meaux played seven seasons of minor league ball, peaking at AAA.

Selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 25th round of the 2001 amateur draft, one round before they took Bobby Wilson, Meaux made his pro debut that summer with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, going 2-2 with a 5.59 ERA in 17 appearances. He began 2002 with the Hagerstown Suns and looking much better (4-3, 17 Sv, 2.63, .97 WHIP in 44 G). In July, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox along with Felix Diaz for Kenny Lofton, and he ended the year with the Kannapolis Intimidators (0-2, 6 Sv, 1.35 in 10 G). He was third in the South Atlantic League in saves behind Lee Gronkiewicz and Rommie Lewis and led the SAL with 54 pitching appearances.

In 2003, Ryan pitched for the Winston-Salem Warthogs (1-3, 10 Sv, 1.15) and Birmingham Barons (1-2, 2 Sv, 2.13), posting a 1.53 ERA and 1.01 WHIP for the year with only six walks in 93 innings. He tied for the most games pitched (58) by a White Sox minor leaguer. Moved to a starting role in 2004, he was less effective (7-9, 4.04) for the Barons. He opened 2005 back with the Barons, now in relief once more (5-2, 3 Sv, 2.96 in 38 G) then was dealt to the San Diego Padres for Geoff Blum and finished the year with the Mobile Bay Bears (2-0, 3.18 in 15 G).

Pitching for the Portland Beavers on June 9, 2006, Meaux combined with Aquilino Lopez and Cla Meredith to throw a perfect game against the Sacramento River Cats. Meaux worked the first four innings of the 7-inning gem. For the year, he was 1-1 with a save and 0.73 ERA in 8 games for Mobile but only 2-3 with a 6.11 ERA in 40 games for Portland.

However, the following season would be his final one in pro ball, as he split the year between the Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Oakland Athletics chains. He appeared that year for the Springfield Cardinals (2 R in 3 2/3 IP), Fresno Grizzlies (0-3, 8.25 in 7 G), Midland Rockhounds (0-1, 11.25 in 6 G), Memphis Redbirds (9.00 ERA in 7 G) and Sacramento River Cats (1.98 ERA in 13 G), with a 6.65 ERA and 0-4 record for the season.

Overall, Meaux had gone 25-31 with 39 saves and a 3.74 ERA in 296 minor league games (30 starts). In 543 2/3 IP, he allowed 608 hits and 142 walks while striking out 444.
