Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Lee Gronkiewicz attended the University of South Carolina, where in 2001 he was an All-American after posting a 1.42 ERA and leading the country with 16 saves. He was with Team USA in the qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics and was 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA in five relief stints. His victory was a key one, coming in the finals against the Cuban national team. He allowed one hit in 1 2/3 IP that game and had 3 of the USA's five strikeouts, getting the win over Pedro Luis Lazo.

Gronkiewicz rejoined Team USA for the 2007 Baseball World Cup, going 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in six appearances, the most on the club as it won its first Gold Medal in a Baseball World Cup in over 30 years. He got the win in the final game of the round-robin, beating the host Taiwan national team to clinch first place in Pool A for the USA.
