Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Ryan Bolden was picked by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim with the 40th pick of the 2010 amateur draft, compensation for the loss of John Lackey to free agency. Bolden was the 4th Angels pick, following Cam Bedrosian, Chevy Clarke and Taylor Lindsey. He had a commitment to the University of Mississippi but wound up signing with the Angels. He debuted as a pro on June 21st with the AZL Angels, going one for two with a triple, run, RBI and time caught stealing.

Bolden played in the Angels organization from 2010 to 2013, but never developed as expected. His .187 average in his first professional season with the AZL Angels in 2010 was the highest of his career. All four of his seasons were at the Rookie classification level, the first three in the Arizona League and 2013 with the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League. In 112 games, he hit a paltry .164 with 3 homers and 36 RBIs. he had good speed, as attested by 7 triples and 23 stolen bases, but struck out 164 times in 372 at-bats. He sat out the 2014 season because of back issues.

Ryan met a tragic end on December 17, 2014 as he was shot and killed during an altercation in College Park, GA that had apparently started with kids arguing over candy and which turned nasty when adults became involved. He died a few hours later at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
