Biographical Information[edit]
Ruel Batuto made one appearance for the Philippines national team in the 2002 Asian Games, allowing three hits and two runs in 1/3 of an inning against champion South Korea. He had relieved Fernando Badrina in the 6th and was succeeded by Charlie Labrador. He was next in the 2003 Asian Championship. He also pitched for the Philippines team that won the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. He pitched two combined no-hitters against Myanmar in a four-day period. On November 30, he worked 2 2/3 hitless innings (1 BB, 1 HB, 3 K) before Darwin dela Calzada wrapped up a five-inning mercy rule no-no. In the semifinals, he again started against Myanmar, walking 3 in 2 1/3 hitless innings and allowing an unearned run. He left with a 1-0 deficit against Chit Khine Oo but Charlie Labrador turned in 6 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings of relief and the Philippines rallied to win.
He played in the 2006 Asian Games. He was the worst pitcher for the Philippines in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup. He faced 25 batters - of those, he walked eight and hit two. He also gave up 5 hits for a .600 opponent OBP. He was charged with 14 runs (13 earned) in 2 2/3 IP for a 43.88, almost double his closest teammate's 22.50. Batuto faced four batters in the 2007 Asian Championship against Taiwan - he retired one, gave up two hits, walked one and was charged with two runs. His 54.00 ERA again lead the Philippines staff. He was with the Philippines for a Silver in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games.
